Our isolation facility allows treatment of communicable infectious disease, including strangles and salmonella infections. These patients are kept away from our other hospitalized patients to prevent cross contamination. Separate personnel are utilized to care for these patients. Protocol includes the use of gloves, gowns, and booties. It is a requirement that hands be washed prior to leaving the isolation facility. Fluid therapy and intensive monitoring are available in isolation. These stalls prevent contact with adjacent patients and ensure that no respiratory droplets come into contact with other horses. This is all to ensure that disease is not spread to other horses.
